Regulatory changes in the sector of lending institutions and their impact on increasing the level of consumer protection

In recent years, a number of regulations have been introduced which have a direct and significant impact on the functioning of loan institutions in Poland. The reason for introducing the changes was the necessity to organize the non-banking loan market and its professionalisation. It should also be pointed out that the necessity to introduce appropriate changes was caused by an increase in the number of irregularities in the practices of loan institutions, especially in the area of consumer credit costs. The study attempts to analyze the regulatory changes introduced in the years 2015-2017 and the changes proposed by the project provider in 2019. The aim of the study is to indicate that taking regulatory action, which includes credit institutions, is necessary to guarantee the level of protection of consumers ‒ borrowers and strengthen their position in relations with creditors ‒ in the analyzed case of lending institutions.
