Abstract:

For reflection on the educational potential of popular culture is interesting what is said in these texts and despite what critics think about it, they are not always trivial. Considering that one of the issues of the conference concerns the issue of utopia, the second part discusses the pop-cultural texts that illustrate the characteristic elements of utopia: burial of the “old world”, establishing a “perfect” order, protection against external destruction and protection against destruction from inside. Formed at different times and based on different means of expression, they talk about the dilemmas associated with thinking about a “better world”. They present the mechanisms and consequences of building a new society “with their own language”. The article presents a review of the novel of Polish science-fiction writer Stanisław Lem “Return from the Stars” and films “Pleasentville” (1998) directed by G. Ross and “Village” (2004) and M.N. Shyamalan.
