Abstract:

Borderscapes (cf. Perera, 2007) are places of social and linguistic diffusion, places of cultural and economic hybridization, places in which the inhabitants have the opportunity and also obligation to open themselves towards the neighbour's language and culture. Based on the theory of social integration by Heckmann (2006) (that actually focuses on integration of immigrants), the paper discusses the condition of cultural integration (one of the four fields of social integration, cf. Heckmann, 2006, pp. 15-18) in the German-Polish border region on the on the example of Slubfurt (Słubice - Frankfurt Oder twin town).  

Borderscapes są przestrzeniami społecznej i językowej dyfuzji, miejscami kulturowej i ekonomicznej hybrydyzacji. Są to miejsca stwarzające mieszkańcom możliwość, a zarazem obligujące ich do otwarcia się ma język i kulturę sąsiada. Opierając się na teorii integracji społecznej Heckmanna (2006), w niniejszym artykule podejmuje się próbę oceny integracji kulturowej na pograniczu polsko-niemieckim na przykładzie Słubfurtu (dwumiasta Słubice/Frankfurt nad Odrą).
