The aim of the article is to identify selected elements of consumers’ purchasing behaviour during the pandemic, in particular relating to customer safety issues in-store. The hypothesis of the research was, that consumers adjusted their purchasing behaviour by making everyday purchases during the pandemic and positively responded to solutions used in retail trade during the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of the article was achieved through the use of literature studies, legal acts concerning the functioning of trade during a pandemic as well as direct research conducted by the authors of the article. The research was carried out in November 2020 using the online survey technique among 1045 adult Poles selected in a quota sampling. During the pandemic – both in choosing the place of purchase and during stay in retail outlets – the safety of the place of purchase is important to consumers. Most of the surveyed consumers feel safe when shopping for everyday items, and in the opinion of the respondents, the best place to buy them is at a discount store. Not only retailers, but also buyers take into consideration the increase of their own safety and that they care about other consumers by limiting the places where they shop, the frequency and time spent in the store, and by combining their own purchases with purchases for others. For the respondents, the obligatory and optional solutions used in connection with the pandemic are of great importance.
