Abstract:

The author of the article conducts an analysis of a “Guideline of Performing Ibadah at International Space Station (ISS)” by Department of Islamic Advancement of Malay-sia ( JAKIM). The document was published for the first Malaysian astronaut – Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor. As a religious man he wanted to be sure his salvation wouldn’t be affected by his spaceflight. The guideline allows any Muslim astronaut to be focused on their research in space and at the same time fulfill all of their obligations as a Muslim. The objective of this paper is not only to summarize the document itself but also to give a wider perspective on the Muslim attitudes towards space travel
