The main purpose of this paper is to discuss the issue of impediments to marriage in district laws that existed in the Second Polish Republic. When Poland regained independence in 1918, the codifications of the partitioning powers were still binding in recovered areas there still existed invader’s codifications. Legal acts, which regulated the issue of marital obstacles were as follows: in the Western Krai it was mainly the 10th volume of The Digest of Laws of the Russian Empire, in the lands of the former Prussian Partition it was BGB, in the former Austrian Partition it was ABGB, in the Spisz and Orava some of the regulations of the ABGB were in force, but in most cases it was Hungarian law marriage of 1894. and in central Poland, formerly the Kingdom of Poland, Law on marriage was in force, imposed in 1836 by Tsar Nicholas in his decree. This article discusses marriage impediments, taking into account the differences and similarities between the laws and their impact on the work of unification and codification performed by Commission of Codification.
