Abstract:

The traditional teaching of classical Indian dances is a fascinating cultural phenomenon. In my considerations I explain what the term classical Indian dance stands for and what is its history. I describe the ancient teaching model of the temple dance dasijattam and the particular relationship between the disciple and the teacher in the Gurukula system. It is crucial to emphasise the oral tradition and the method of knowledge transfer. I wonder if this teaching model might be applied in the modern world, what are its advantages and disadvantages and if foreign dancers might follow this kind of path  

Tradycyjne nauczanie klasycznych form tańca indyjskiego jest niezwykle fascynującym zjawiskiem kulturowym. W swoich rozważaniach wyjaśniam, co kryje się pod pojęciem klasycznego tańca indyjskiego, jaka była jego historia. Opisuję starożytny model nauczania świątynnego tańca dasijattam oraz rodzaj szczególnych relacji, jakie łączyły ucznia i nauczyciela w systemie gurukula. Istotne w tym przypadku jest zwrócenie uwagi na tradycję ustną, sposób przekazu wiedzy. Zastanawiam się, na ile możliwe jest funkcjonowanie tego modelu nauczania we współczesnym świecie, jakie są jego wady i zalety, a także, czy zagraniczni tancerze mogą podążać taką drogą.
