  The author of the article conducts the evolution of the municipal referendum, based on features such: criteria as territorial, subjective and objective scope, purpose, form of voting, authorized bodies, result and costs of this institution in the III Republic of Poland. The article is mainly based on the provisions of normative acts, adding information from the achievements of doctrine and jurisprudence. The summary of the article is a table, in which the author compared changes in the municipal referendum
