  The article presents a proposal of distinguishing two dichotomous styles of teacher’s work. It also assumes that the open style supports the development of competencies important for a contemporary man while the closed style blocks independent thinking and promotes passiveness and helplessness. On the basis of the constructed research tool, the frequency of activities undertaken by teachers of research subjects in terms of the designated styles has been determined.
