  The presented doctoral thesis will analyze the impact of the global economic crisis on a balanceof power in the international system, particularly on the hegemonic position of the US. The crisis reached its peak in the period 2008 – 2009.Although the onset of the crisis was in the US market, the financial meltdown has spread abruptly and become a worldwide phenomenon. The world financial crisis has brought about extensivechanges in various areas. Consequently questions can be asked about its influence on the international relations. The analysis focuses on the relations between major world powers.Particularly, the issue of the hegemonic position of the US was examined, as well as a possibility ofreplacing the US as a hegemon by another great power. To achieve this goal the author employed theories of G. Modelski, I. Wallerstein, A.F.K Organski as well as (to lesser extent) theories of Ch.Kindleberger, M. Olson, P. Kennedy and remarks of ancient historians (Herodotus and Thucydides).

  Przedstawiona praca doktorska poświęcona jest zagadnieniu wpływu światowego kryzysu finansowego, którego kulminacyjna faza przypada na lata 2008-2009, na równowagę pomiędzy mocarstwami globalnymi, a w szczególności na hegemoniczną pozycję USA.Choć wspomniany kryzys finansowy został zapoczątkowany w Stanach Zjednoczonych Ameryki,dość szybko przekształcił się w kryzys gospodarczy i przybrał globalne rozmiary. Przyniósł ongwałtowne zmiany w różnych sferach. W związku z tym pojawiają się pytania dotyczące jego wpływu na stosunki międzynarodowe. W niniejszej pracy skoncentrowano się na badaniu relacjipomiędzy głównymi potęgami światowymi.W szczególności badano kwestię hegemonicznej pozycji Stanów Zjednoczonych Amerykii możliwość zastąpienia ich w tej roli przez inne mocarstwo. W tym celu posłużono się głównie teoriami G. Modelskiego, I. Wallersteina, A.F.K Organskiego, w mniejszym zakresie również obserwacjami Ch. Kindlebergera, M. Olsona i P. Kennedy'ego oraz starożytnych historyków(Tukidydes, Herodot).
