Subject and Keywords:

Abstract:

Introduction: Children find in a family the most favourable environment for their development. Family builds the child’s self-esteem and shapes attitudes towards the world and also impacts directly and indirectly on human well-being. Psychological well-being is dependent on external factors, personality characteristics and their interaction. Parental attitudes seem to be a one of these external factors determining satisfaction with life and they are the topic of the article. Methods and study group: The study involved 511 high school students aged 16–19 years. We used methods: Parental Attitudes Retrospective Assessment Questionnaire by Plopa, Huebner SLSS Scale, Scheier, Carver, Bridges’ LOT-R Questionnaire, Scale DS14 by Oginska-Bulik, Juczyński, Denollet. Results and conclusions: There is a correlation between parental attitudes and psychological well-being, although its strength is low. Parental attitudes, especially parental acceptance influences on the level of life satisfaction, optimism and negative emotionality. Boys and girls expect other parental attitudes to feel happy.
