One of the fundamental social roles which are fulfilled by a woman is the role of a mother. By meeting caring and educational duties a woman fulfils herself in the maternal role which influences a number of functions fulfilled by her in adult life, as well as the process of shaping her personality. In Polish culture the role of a mother has always been appreciated and considered significant. In a traditional approach the figure of the Polish Mother was concerned with giving birth to and raising children, which gave meaning to her life. In times of socio-cultural, civilizational and economic transformations of the 20th and 21st centuries the role of a mother has undergone a fundamental change. Women have begun to exist in aspects of life which had been reserved for men. Their awareness has been changed, their independence and the sense of autonomy and personal freedom has been increased.
