„Forgotten dimension in the lives and experiences”? Spirituality and religiosity of an adult with intellectual disability in a research context

Abstract:

The history of reshaping social status of a person with intellectual disability indicates to prolonged denial of having a „religious” or „spiritual” sphere of life – however it was defined. Contemporary socio-cultural context also creates ambiguous terms for revaluating mentioned areas. There grows a number of publications dedicated to the idea of inclusive religious education, which connects catechization and newest pedagogical advances. Significantly less papers consider the voice of adults with intellectual disability. Fulfilling this epistemic gap would help to explore the unknown dimensions of needs of people with intellectual disabilities. The overview of chosen publications allowed to reflect on this theme. It also initiated some thoughts on relations between the notions of „religiousity”, „spirituality” and „inclusion”.
