Abstract:

Setting constant limits of behavior is one of the fundamental conditions while arranging child’s safe educational environment. Constant and clear messages concerning the rules which regulate functioning of people in their environments enable unimpeded and safe ways of development. Analyzing parents’ competences in view of the attachment theory, one of the most difficult parental duties is counterbalancing child’s opposing aspirations to intimacy and free exploration. This study is on the awareness of setting constant limits necessity, and also on practical ability to define rules, emotion and behavior expression, as well as on retaining clear rules and ability to be consistent. Many additional external factors hamper for parents to ensure constant, clear and sensible rules. The research materials come from meetings with parents of pre-school and early-school children that took place in Wroclaw educational establishments. Respondents voluntarily were participating in workshops which objective was how to set limits. At the same time parents took part in deepen interviews which were concentrated on the raised problems. The collected empirical data enabled parents’ competences to be described and their improvement prospect to be carried out.
