Abstract:

The paper discusses Franz Rosenzweig’s new teaching approach and its effects on Judaic education renewal. It shows the new teaching based on dialogue (conversation) to challenge the academic method of knowledge acquisition by opting for the knowledge and experience of life and the relational meeting of students and teachers. The paper also highlights a relationship between the new teaching and the new thinking against the background of such philosophical categories developed by Rosenzweig as language, living speech, other and time. The interconnection between the new thinking and the new teaching brings to light utopian traits of the latter, demonstrates the necessity to produce a new type of teacher-pedagogue and explains the role of the Lehrhaus (Free Jewish House of Study in Frankfurt) in the renewal of Jewish identity and education.
