Abstract:

The article presents the profile and work of Ayaan Hirsi Ali in the context of her experiences of violence motivated by Islamic doctrine. The author analyses the autobiographical books by the Somali writer. As part of the analysis, Ali’s criticism of multiculturalism, associated with the challenges posed by the immigration policy of the West, is discussed. The article recounts the reactions by Muslim fundamentalists, left-wing activists, politicians, and journalists to Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s activity. Her work is incorporated into a wider stream of literary discourse that depicts the upbringing and coming of age in the Muslim societies of Africa and Europe. For the purposes of context, sociological studies are used to present the Muslim attitude towards aspects of Islamic law governing women’s rights
