Abstract:

The paper presents two translations of Plautus’ comedies – Miles gloriosus and Menaechmi – made by the Polish classicist, Zygmunt Węclewski. The manuscript containing these translations has been found by the author of the article in the Library of the University in Lviv. The translations have never been published; therefore the author describes not only the preservation and the condition of the manuscript, but also the translation itself. The article refers to such matters as the problem of fidelity of the translation in relation to the source text and various means of translating figures of speech.
