Today, one of the most popular science fiction books and series isG.R.R. Martin’s ‘A Game of Thrones’. This author creates a fictitiousworld modeled on medieval England. In this world literacy is unfamiliarto most of the population. Only the elite of Westeros is familiarwith the topic of literacy. In this paper I aim to investigate traces of oral tradition in Martin’s books. He was probably unaware of the theoriesof primary oral tradition, but we can find traces of orality in thefolklore of Westeros.
