Abstract:

The article discusses life of saint Augustine of Hippo who was and still is true master and teacher for countless generations of Christians. Adulterer, pagan, heretic and impenitent sinner who became saint bishop and the Father of the Church. His life is extraordinary story about conversion. We know this story from Saint Possidius bishop of Calama, disciple of saint Augistin who wrote Vita Sancti Augustini (Life of Saint Augustine), and from Augustine himself who wrote famous Confessions.  

Artykuł traktuje o życiu św. Augustyna z Hippony, który był i nadal jest prawdziwym mistrzem i nauczycielem dla niezliczonych pokoleń chrześcijan. Cudzołożnik, poganin, heretyk i zatwardziały grzesznik, który stał się świętym biskupem i Ojcem Kościoła. Jego życie stanowi niezwykłą historię o nawróceniu. Znamy ją dzięki Possydiuszowi z Kalamy, uczniowi św. Augustyna, autorowi Vita Sancti Augustini (Żywot św. Augustyna) oraz dzięki samemu Augustynowi i jego słynnym Wyznaniom.
