Title:

Between social requirements and one’s own vision of oneself. Everyday life as a source of students’ self-creation process

Subject and Keywords:

cultural requirements   developmental task   self-creation   social requirements   srudents

Abstract:

The time of studies is a period of youth’s rapid growth not only in the context of their professional career but also in respect of the development of their identity and planning personal development. Based on an analysis of self-creation actions undertaken by students of three Wroclaw universities, three dimensions of their self-creation process would be described, i.e. physical, psychical and social development dimensions. On the one hand, the meanings attributed by students to self-creation in each of these dimensions reflect social expectations as well as the cultural requirements in the late modern age. At the same time, however, students try to give these actions the individual meaning through creating their own vision of themselves and their own development.
