Legal status of NagornoKarabakh in comparison with legal status of Kosovo

Abstract:

The outbreaks that took place in the Caucasus at the beginning of April 2016 reminded the international community of the conflict over NagornoKarabakh – the Armenian inhabited province of Azerbaijan, which aspires to create its own state. Due to inefficiency of the mediation process involving Turkey, Russia, Iran and the OSCE Minsk Group, it seems that the ways to solve this problem should be searched elsewhere. Taking into account comparable experiences of Kosovo, the author aims to indicate the conditions that determined a relative success in creating a new state and the possibilities of applying them in the case of Karabakh conflict.
