Over the centuries, education as a system has undergone numerous transformations and reforms, including ones related to adjusting to EU and international standards. The Polish educational system receives mixed assessments. The authors’ intention is to draw attention to the issues of equality and freedom in the Polish educational system. Therefore, this study takes on the following issues: first, different ways of understanding of the terms “equality” and “freedom”; second, the principle of equality in schools; and third, the relationship between equality and freedom of education, using homeschooling as an example of this relationship
