Abstract:

This paper aims to reflect on the position of underage activists in a democratic society. Youth participation becomes an increasingly important issue-both in democratic practices and theoretical considerations. However, in a democratic society, we deal with a certain paradox - on the one hand, we want young people to engage in the civic society, on the other hand, their critical participation makes them transgress their „role”. To analyze this paradox, the author considers youth’role in classical definitions of democracy. Subsequently, she describes the debate about youth participation, where this paradox is illustrated.
