Abstract:

In Polish reviews, both legal and devoted to studies of muslim world, the analysis of legal institutions concerning islam law is still a rare phenomenon. The question of the impact of sharia law on labor law in muslim countries has never so far been discussed in Poland. In the meantime, Muslims make up about a quarter of world’s population, the number of migrants to Poland from states forming Organization of Islamic Cooperation has been steadily increasing, the value of direct foreign investment coming from muslim regions to our country has been growing as well, and additionally Polish entrepreneurs become ever more adamant about seeking business opportunities in destinations like the Persian Gulf. The article is an attempt to outline the complex relations present between sources of islam law on the one hand and labor regulations adopted in muslim jurisdictions on the other. The analysis is enriched with historical and constitutional backgrounds against which sharia law has been co-creating laws governing employment.
