Implementation of the EU sustainable energy policy in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – selected issues

The energy policy of the European Union was initially oriented towards the need to guarantee safe supplies of energy resources. With the passage of time and changes taking place in the international environment, it has become necessary to take into account also environmental and social aspects (sustainable energy policy). The aim of the article is to present the results of the analysis of the implementation of the objectives of the sustainable energy policy of the European Union in recent years in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals related to the broadly understood energy sector. The conducted analysis leads to the conclusion that the goals set by the EU in the discussed area are consistent with the goals of sustainable development. However, their full implementation is hampered by the interests of individual Member States, which makes the postulate of developing energy solidarity still valid.
