Abstract:

The Pole’s Card was introduced into the Polish legal order with the Act of 7 September 2007. The Pole’s Card is issued to Poles living in the East after they fulfil statutory requirements. The consul can issue, decline to issue and invalidate The Pole’s Card. It is possible to appeal the decision of The Consul to the Council of Poles in the East within 30 days from the day of receiving the decision. The Pole’s Card is issued for the period of 10 years, with possibility of its extension. The card holder is granted numerous rights, most importantly he is released from the obligation to possess a permission to work in Poland and may conduct economic activity in accordance with the principles which bind Polish citizens. The Pole’s Card is particularly popular among the Ukrainians. The Pole’s Card does not give the right to settle on the territory of Poland nor does it give the right to procurement of the Polish citizenship status. The document presents compensation to many compatriots who live outside the country for various mainly historic reasons.
