Abstract:

The author of the article describes Ibn Taymiyyah’s ideas and his influence on radical or extermist islamic movements. The first part contains the thinker’s short biography and the author’s considerations about the impact of his life’s events on his philosophy. The second part describes Ibn Taymiyyah’s opinions about state, religion (in particular bid’ah and jihad), islamic rulers, history, principles and sources of sharia law and other parts of his philosophy. In the last part the author analyzes the influence of Ibn Taymiyyah’s thoughts on historical and modern radical or extermist islamic organisations and movements.
