Abstract:

In the social sciences and humanities in the 21st century the category “nostalgic turn” describes a tendency to reach for the past as a source of inspiration, a model for cultural practices and a template for materialization of different projects. This phenomenon – increasingly popular in the contemporary world – is interpreted by many researchers as a gesture of opposition to the ever-increasing speed of changes, as well as being a derivative of the growing uncertainty. However, it is emphasised as well that nostalgia is one of the major trends that are explored by the consumer culture and the entertainment industry. The nostalgic turn is also strongly present in the young generation. It is reflected, inter alia, in the fascination of both the nineties of the 20th century and the period before the fall of the Iron Curtain, or in the increased interest in history and attempts to reconstruct it. The article analyses this phenomenon in relation to the newest theories in social sciences and humanities.  

„Zwrot nostalgiczny” to kategoria, która w słowniku nauk społecznych i humanistycznych XXI wieku opisuje tendencję do sięgania do przeszłości jako źródła inspiracji, wzorca dla praktyk kulturowych oraz matrycy dla materializacji określonych projektów. Zjawisko to – coraz bardziej popularne we współczesnym świecie – traktowane jest przez wielu badaczy jako gest sprzeciwu wobec wciąż rosnącej szybkości zachodzących zmian, a także będącej ich pochodną rosnącej niepewności. Podkreśla się jednak też fakt, że nostalgia pozostaje obecnie jednym z ważniejszych nurtów eksplorowanych przez kulturę konsumpcyjną i przemysł rozrywkowy. Zwrot nostalgiczny jest także silnie obecny w młodym pokoleniu. Znajduje swoje odzwierciedlenie między innymi w fascynacji latami dziewięćdziesiątymi XX wieku, okresem sprzed upadku żelaznej kurtyny czy też we wzmożonym zainteresowaniu historią i próbami jej rekonstrukcji. W artykule podejmuję się analizy tego zjawiska w odniesieniu do najnowszych teorii w naukach społecznych i humanistycznych.
