Description:

The mime (POxy 413), which was entitled after the protagonist’s name Charition, is a crucialevidence about social interactions between Greek and Indian people. Profound analysis of means of artistic expressions used in the text substantially contributes to the modern studies on the image of ancient barbaroi as well as on social and racial stereotypes about non-Greek people living on the periphery of the oikumene. Additionally the article contains the first Polish translation of the surviving body of the discussed mime.
