Abstract:

The author of this article endeavors to present a brief commentary on the numerous controversies surrounding Sanjay Leela Bhansali's historic epic Padmaavat. In the article, the author will attempt to outline plot of the original epic poem Padmavat and compare it with its cinematic version. Furthermore, the author will strive to present the genesis of the controversies surrounding the film and will present them in the context of the Rajput community and its culture and code of honour. The author will also attempt to provide a possible explanation for the proposed ban on the film and will establish a connection between the issues with the film and the Indian right-wing politics
