Abstract:

The article is an interpretation of Julian Tuwim’s poem “Daily Living,” in which the poet reveals the uniqueness of everyday life, its incomprehensibility, and mystery. The study of the poem refers to other poetic works (of Zbigniew Herbert, Jerzy Liebert, Krystyna Miłobędzka) and is led by means of opposition to ready-to-hand — present-at-hand terms (Martin Heidegger), communication (Søren Kierkegaard/Michał Paweł Markowski), incredulity (Zygmunt Freud), and literary epiphany (Ryszard Nycz). In the final analysis, the poetry appears as an attempt of finding a language to describe the incomprehensibility (“uniqueness” — Józef Czechowicz) of the world, which disappears due to routinizing mechanism of constructing “everyday reality” (described by Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckman).
