Subject and Keywords:

Philippines   terrorism   Moro Islamic Liberation Front   Abu Sayyaf

In recent years we can observe the intensified development of terrorist organizations activities that pose serious threats to broadly understood international security. Although terrorist groups have emerged and operate in every region of the world, the attention of researchers is focused primarily on the Middle Eastern islamic groups. Meanwhile, the issue of the intensity of radical terrorist organizations on the Southeast Asia and South Asia territory is an equally dangerous phenomenon. Far East terrorism, however, develops not only in countries where Muslims prevail, which is perfectly illustrated by the example of a state called the “Christian bastion of Asia” – the Republic of Philippines. The aim of the author will be presenting the genesis, specifics and actions taken by the Abu Sayyaf Group and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. The article will also present a policy on terrorism led by the President Rodrigo Duterte
