<dc:title xml:lang="pl"><![CDATA[Metus pyrrhicus : rzeczywistość i historiografia]]></dc:title>

<dc:description xml:lang="en"><![CDATA[The main issue of this article is the question of the social impact of the war against Pyrrhus in Rome. The author analyzes the problem of fear of Pyrrhus (metus Pyrrhicus). The image of Pyrrhus was created based on Greek literary standards. During Pyrrhus’ invasion of Italy, his heroic image was meant to strengthen the respect of the Greek community. In theory, this was to serve the break-up of the Italian federation in Southern Italy. The author of this work notes that the metus Pyrrhicus had real reason to exist. However, its intensity depended primarily on factors that existed after the war with Pyrrhus. The symbolic fear of the king of Epirus grew with the historical course of the Republic. This fear was subject to transformation related to political needs and in such a form it was described in historiography. In addition, metus Pyrrhicus was politically useful in the face of successive wars led by Rome, especially acts of Roman violence, which they allowed.]]></dc:description>
