TY - GEN A1 - Barański, Jarosław PB - Instytut Pedagogiki Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego N2 - Wojciech Gutkowski’s "Journey to Kalopea", which was in the manuscript already in 1817, is the first Polish utopia that advocates a radical transformation of the social order. This social order should be based on a system of equality and social justice. Gutkowski placed his ideal state in Australia, to which according this text arrived King of Poland, Boleslaw Śmiały, in the eleventh century. Gutkowski’s educational utopia are ideas, solutions and laws derived from the tradition of the Commission of National Education and the works of the Chamber of Public Education. This utopia is based on the profound conviction that the realization of the ideas mentioned above is possible only in a society based on common property, which joint property will provide the conditions of universal and free education. An important feature of Gutkowski’s thought is the postulate of universal and complete education for women, what is a revolutionary idea at the beginning of the nineteenth century.
