Administrative enforcement as the basic form of state coercion allows public administration authorities to achieve the obligation imposed on an individual derived from administrative law. The article shows this institution as a historical one, present in the practice of public administration at various stages of Polish statehood based on variable legal regulations. The aim of the following work is to show the evolution of administrative enforcement, to analyse changes taking place in the legal acts in various historical periods and to show some kind of consistency of Polish scientific thought related to this area. The theoretical considerations indicate the first forms of enforcement that are appropriate for pre-state era and reach up to modern procedures based on the current legal regulations.
