In the article, special attention is drawn to how the history of the community progressed, starting from the first historical mentions of non-heterosexual activities among the Japanese people. The author will provide specific examples of both historical events and literary evidence. Furthermore, the author will outline how the modern LGBT community in Japan came to be and why it happened relatively late in Japan’s history.
