Poles, especially those living under German and Russian occupation, were subjects to aggressive nationalist policies. By promoting tradition, culture and religion through education the Polish families of the Kresy region played a great role in preserving Polish national identity and faith in regaining independence. The education and upbringing Janusz Jędrzejewicz, a great reformer of education and prime minister of the Second Republic, the son Eleonora and Czesław, may serve as an example.
