 abstract={The article presents the historical conditions for the creation of a uniform regulation of mutual recognition of professional qualifications within the European Union, currently included in the provisions of Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 7 September 2005 on the recognition of professional qualifications. As part of the analysis, previous legal regulations adopted by the Community legislator were presented, taking into account both the vertical approach (sectoral directives) and the horizontal approach (general system directives). Moreover, as another factor the jurisprudence of the Court of Justice over the years and its impact on the development of legislation and the application of law in the framework of mutual recognition of professional qualifications have been indicated. The influence of non-strictly legal factors was also indicated – political ones related to the accession of new member states, as well as economic ones related to the functioning of the Community’s labor market.},
