 abstract={A technology which stands behind cryptocurrencies is of wide interest nowadays. Blockchain is seen as a breakthrough innovation with a wide range of applications. Currently, not only financial institutions and companies, but also governments are noticing the advantages of blockchain and the impact it may have on the system of public services provided by e-government. The aim of the paper is to present the mechanism of operation of the blockchain as a type of distributed ledger technology, analyze the advantages of the technology in terms of high-quality public services, discuss the examples of blockchain pilot projects, and identify possible challenges it may cause for the public sector.},
