 abstract={Krystyn Lach-Szyrma, a Vilnius University graduate and guardian of Prince Constantine Czartoryski’s son, travelled with his pupil to Great Britain in 1820. Their stay in England and Scotland lasted several years, as it was connected with young Czartoryski’s studies at the University of Edinburgh. After his return to Poland, K. Lach-Szyrma – already a professor at the University of Warsaw – published a three-volume work entitled England and Scotland. Recollections from journey of 1820-1824. The book, which contains a lot of very interesting observations, also contains a description of the British Parliament. Although the picture is brief, it is quite correct. The author of England and Scotland has elegantly combined basic information about the functioning of the House of Commons and the House of Lords with curiosities pertaining to British parliamentary customs. The fragment of K. Lach-Szyrma’s work devoted to the Parliament is undoubtedly an interesting attempt to familiarise his countrymen with English political solutions, not very well known in Poland at that time.},
