Through its operations, BEREC supports the guarantee of fair competition and regulatory cohesion on the internal market in the area of electronic communications. At present, BEREC enjoys the status of an independent regulatory body, gathering decision-making national regulatory bodies within its structures and drawing from their expertise and regulatory experience. The paper discusses the rules governing the set-up and activity of the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications in the context of consistency of the regulations governing its activity with the principles of good governance. Furthermore, the paper addresses the planned comprehensive reform of regulations in the telecoms sector, which was presented by the European Commission as a particularly ambitious project under the Single Digital Market strategy.
