On its basis, looking in a broader perspective, an attempt will be made to interpret the contemporary foreign policy of the People’s Republic of China in the first decades of the 21st century. The article will also focus on the benefits of this flagship initiative for both China and Pakistan and the importance of the Gwadar port in the context of a larger infrastructure project such as CPEC. The author will discuss the significance of arising investments for the economy and internal security of both China and Pakistan, drawing conclusions on motivation and possible consequences for such large-scale Chinese investments.
