 abstract={It is generally accepted that the labour inspection, in its role of supervising compliance with labour law, is one of the key guarantors of social and legal order in this area. The aim of the article is to verify the accuracy and validity of this view. Questions also arise about the legal nature and scope of the inspectorate’s role in this area. This requires reference to concepts such as „social order” and „legal order”. The title issue also prompts us to look at the labour inspection in the context of the historical conditions for the establishment of the first bodies of this type. In this regard, the history of the Polish Labour Inspection deserves special attention. The article will also attempt to define the basic conditions on which the effectiveness of the activities of the labour inspection as a guarantor of social and legal order depends.},
