 abstract={The article presents a comparative analysis of the regional assembly elections in 1998 and 2002. Comparing the first and second elections to the regional representation shows the transition process of the Polish party system at the regional level from a duopoly based on the post-communist divide in the 1990s to an oligopoly in the early 21st century. The article focuses on issues concerning the participants in the electoral competition in 1998 and 2002, the results of individual electoral committees on a national scale in both elections, the effects of the competition, primarily related to voter preferences in individual regions (regional electoral profiles), and the effects of electoral competition in the assemblies, related to the appointment of regional government boards.},
