abstract={The article analyzes Ernst-Wolfgang Böckenförde's political theology, highlighting its importance in considering the relationship between the state and the Church. Böckenförde, a historian and lawyer, combines social democratic views with the thought of Carl Schmitt, exploring the possibility of the democratic state coexisting with Christian values. In the work, he highlights the historical evolution of this relationship, from pre-modern times to the present, and their interplay on the legitimacy and goals of institutions. The author examines Böckenförde's views on statehood and its relationship to the Church's social teachings. Key findings indicate that the model of state-church relations proposed by Böckenförde strives for their mutual respect while preserving the autonomy of both parties.},
