 abstract={The main purpose of this paper – divided into two parts – is the description of purposes of administrative proceedings from a definition perspective in the context of showing the importance of them for the judicial control of public administration in Poland. The main domain of considerations in this paper is the indication of the basic purposes of administrative proceedings, their classification and sources of origin, starting with domestic regulations in the form of the Administrative Procedure Code and the Polish Constitution, and ending with European regulations (EU Treaties and ECHR). Another important aspect of this paper is an attempt to clarify and explain the place of the purposes of administrative proceedings in the process of applying and interpreting legal provisions with particular attention on the role of the axiology of the Polish legal order.},
