Liberal and leftist politicians have been constantly proposing new legal solutions in order to curb hate speech in public space. However among liberal philosophers, there is a dispute whether to support such legislation, in the name of protecting minorities or to oppose it, as freedom of speech absolutists. Critics of regulation regarding hate speech, both liberal and conservative, emphasise that it is likely to lead to arbitrary judgments.
