It presents the definition of forced marriage and the most significant acts of international law, such as the Convention on Consent to Marriage, Minimum Age of Marriage, and Registration of Marriages, or the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. These acts set standards for combating this issue. Additionally, the article includes key statistics reflecting the scale of the problem. The matter of recognizing forced marriage as a crime against humanity by the Special Court for Sierra Leone in the Appeals Chamber judgment of February 22, 2008, concerning AFRC leaders, is also mentioned.
