Using Reinhart Koselleck’s ideas as a frame of reference, the paper provides a semantic analysis of the concept of utopia as well as traces the development of utopia as a social and political project that has been a part of man’s history-making since the Enlightenment. Thus defined, the concept of utopia is situated within the interconnections between two transcendental concepts of Koselleck’s philosophy of history, which are the space of experience and the horizon of expectations. The paper stresses the problem of conservation of tension between the horizon of expectations and the space of experience in man’s history-making, and at the same time demonstrates the necessity to connect utopia with the space of experience.
