The article aims to examine the references to Julius Caesar and Augustus, that we can find in Norwid’s literary works and letters. The reflection on mentioned figures is often connected with the consideration about the condition of Rome in the times of their political activity, that coincided approximately (in the case of Caesar; Christus was born in times of Augustus) with the beginning of the Christian Era. It is also worth to mention that the problems associated with the ancient Rome count among the most important themes of Norwid’s works and are one of the key-issues of his historiosophy. It is investigated in the article, how Norwid appraises Caesar, Augustus and Rome of their times. It is presented, how Caesar, one of the Norwid’s favourite personalities, is being idolised by the Polish poet. The article tries to answer the question, if and how far the thesis mentioned in the title of the article is true.
